Club History
Paul Harris founded Rotary in the city of Chicago in 1905. In 1908, the idea of a Rotary Club extended across the nation to Club #2 in San Francisco, along with Club #3 in Oakland. A few years later these two Clubs sponsored a Sacramento Club, who in turn, became the sponsor of a Club in North Sacramento. There are currently 40 Clubs in our District 5180.
The Rotary idea of friendship, fellowship, and service to others has spread to six continents. The name “Rotary” was chosen because the Club met in rotation at each member’s place of business.
Our Club was chartered March 23, 1984 as The Rotary Club of Valley Hi. On April 2, 1997 it was renamed The Rotary Club of Valley Hi/Laguna Creek. On February 21, 2001 our name was changed to The Rotary Club of Laguna/Elk Grove and the club name was finalized in 2008 to The Rotary Club of Laguna Sunrise, which reflects the area we now serve, we meet every Wednesday at 8a.m. at the Valley Hi Country Club.
